ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ABSENT STUDENTS

The Board of Education believes that schools should work cooperatively with parents and community agencies to insure, to the best of their collective efforts, the health and safety of all students.

By law, schools assume legal responsibility for children only when they arrive on school premises during designated school hours or are under direct supervision of school personnel.* However, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District will make every reasonable effort to determine the whereabouts of every child enrolled in its schools when he/she is absent during school hours.

The Board of Education encourages and urges all parents in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District to cooperate with their local school(s) to establish a system of communication between home and school which will aid in the protection of the child on his/her way to and from school.
