SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REVIEW BOARD

(SARB)

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District, in keeping with its concern for the optimum development both educationally and socially of all pupils residing within the district, hereby supports the establishment of a School Attendance Review Board (SARB) to meet the needs of students who continue to have attendance and/or behavior problems after normal district and community resources have been utilized, or when it becomes apparent that the appropriate resources are not available.

The School Attendance Review Board (SARB) will:

  1. Bring the school and community into an active partnership for identifying and developing unique school and community resources for solving individual student attendance and behavior problems prior to a referral to the juvenile justice system
  2. Provide access to coordinated services remediating family, community and other non-school-related problems which adversely affect school attendance and learning
  3. Assist in the development of preventive programs within the school and community
  4. Encourage the identification of potential attendance and behavior problems at the earliest possible time

In adopting the SARB operating guidelines, the Board of Education establishes the climate, the communication system, and the procedures for a relationship of shared responsibility between the school and the community in meeting the special needs of individual students.
