CEREMONIES AND OBSERVANCES

Patriotic Exercises

The Board of Education of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District encourages activities that instill pride in our country. Therefore, students in each school shall recite the Pledge of Allegiance, or engage in some other appropriate educational patriotic exercise each school day. The board believes that participation in this exercise shall help students to learn and experience the principles of freedom and democracy.

The district respects the legal right of individuals not to participate in the salute to the flag for personal reasons. However, all students are expected to show respect to the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Special Days and Events

Commemoration of special days and events as prescribed in pertinent state or federal codes or local Board of Education action shall be observed at each school as a valuable part of the educational program.

District schools shall be closed in observance of those holidays prescribed by pertinent state or federal codes or local Board of Education action as indicated in the adopted school year calendar.
