POLITICAL ACTIVITIES OF BOARD MEMBERS

The Board of Education of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District, or any individual board member, may prepare or disseminate information or may make public or private appearances or statements urging the passage or defeat of any district school measure as allowed by law and constrained by district budget.

Official decisions of the board can be arrived at only at duly constituted board meetings. Individual board members or groups of board members do not have independent authority to speak for the board and should make no out-of-meeting commitments unless directed to do so by the board as a whole on its behalf. Individual board members or groups of board members may use district letterhead when dealing with the public only when representing the entire board and specifically authorized to do so.

It is important that board members be non-partisan in dealing with school matters and not subordinate the education of children, youth, or any member of the community to any partisan principle, group interest, or personal ambition.
