MENTOR TEACHER PROGRAM

The principal goal of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Mentor Teacher Program is to improve instructional and learning opportunities for students. The Board of Education and district administrators recognize the need to assist all teachers in preparing for their increasingly responsible roles as educators.

Mentor teachers shall provide assistance and guidance to new and experienced teachers, but shall not participate in the evaluation of teachers. Mentor teacher activities may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Developing special curriculum
  1. Evaluating, selecting and developing teaching materials
  1. Providing staff development for teachers

Mentor Teachers shall be selected who have demonstrated exemplary teaching ability.

In establishing the Mentor Teacher Program, the Board of Education further states its intent to minimize the amount of time that teachers are out of the classroom and thereby directs the superintendent to establish guidelines to limit the mentor teacher's performance to those times which do not disrupt the educational program unless it is deemed necessary.
