ACADEMIC RECOGNITION AND INCENTIVE
It shall be the
policy of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District to encourage academic excellence and to
recognize students who have attained outstanding levels of academic achievement
in secondary schools. The recognition program at the intermediate/middle
school level shall consider the exploratory nature of the program, the effect
of the initial experience with a departmentalized organization, and the
continuing emphasis on skill development. The recognition program at the high
school level shall consider the comprehensive nature of the curriculum, the
variety of organized programs available to the student, and the need to
minimize any stratification of programs.
The term
"academic" as used in this policy refers to evaluation of performance
as indicated by teacher-assigned grades.
As a minimum, such
recognition will include the publication of semester honor rolls and the
designation of appropriate awards and honors at or near the end of the school
year.
