CONTESTS FOR STUDENTS

 

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To provide regulations for student participation in contests

B.     General

1.      All contests must be educationally oriented, curriculum related, and grade level appropriate.

2.      Concerns or questions should be directed to the Assistant Superintendent - Educational Services.

None

D.     Procedures

1.      The following district/county/state contests are authorized for districtwide student participation:

a.      Elementary Spelling Bee  (K-6)

b.      Junior High Spelling Bee  (7-8)

c.      High School Spelling Bee  (9-12)

d.      Elementary Pen and Quill  (3-6)

e.      Academic Pentathlon  (6-8)

f.        Academic Decathlon  (9-12)

g.      History Day      (6-12)

2.      The following contests by other sponsoring agencies are approved for student participation:

a.      Color it Orange Student Art Contest (K-12)

b.      DAR American History Essay Contest (5-8)

c.      Mock Trial Competition (9-12)

d.      Orange County Science and Engineering Fair (7-12)

e.      Orange County Reading Association Outstanding Student Author (K-6)

f.        Rockwell's American Free Enterprise Essay Contest (12)

3.      Athletic, visual and performing arts, speech/debate, or other competitions which are part of district course requirements are exempted from this policy.

4.      All other requests for student participation in contests must be approved by the Assistant Superintendent - Educational Services/designee.
