COMMITTEE ON ASSIGNMENTS

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

The board of Education authorizes the superintendent or his/her designee to establish a Committee on Assignments as defined in Section 44258.7(c,d,e) of the Education Code. The purpose of this committee is to grant approval for assigning full-time teachers with special skill or preparation outside their credential authorization to teach, with their consent, in the area of such special skill or preparation for up to 40 per cent of a full-time assignment. Such approval must be granted prior to the beginning of a semester.

B.     General

1.      The Committee on Assignments is intended to be used on a special needs basis only.

2.      Credential employees are to be encouraged to obtain the proper credential for their assignment.

2.      Petition To Teach Departmentalized Subjects

3.      Approval/Disapproval Form

D.     Procedure

The Committee on Assignments shall be established int he following manner:

1.      The Committee on Assignments shall be an equal number of members.

a.      Three full-time certificated staff members selected by staff.

b.      Three full-time certificated administrators appointed by the superintendent or his/her designee.

2.      Term of membership:

a.      Members shall be elected or appointed for a term of one (1) year.

b.      Members may be re-elected or re-appointed for consecutive terms.

3.      To be approved by the Committee on Assignments for a teaching assignment outside the credential area, a consenting teacher should meet one or more of the following criteria in the assignment area:

a.      College course work or other formal training

b.      Workshops, conferences, or other special training

c.      Reading or self-directed study

d.      Life experience or personal advocation

e.      Work experience or professional involvement

f.        Internship

g.      Study with mentor teacher

h.      Successful teaching experience in the subject area

4.      Documentation will be maintained in the Personnel Office which verifies the teacher's qualifications, consent, and the date and action of the Committee on Assignments.
