REDUCTION IN FORCE

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

In the event it becomes necessary to reduce the number of teachers due to program elimination or reduction, or to reduce the number of teachers in a given subject area or program, or to eliminate or consolidate positions, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District will follow the procedure listed below.

B.     General

Whenever, in any school year, the ADA in all schools for the first six months in which school is in session declines below the corresponding period of either of the previous two school years, or whenever a service is to be reduced or discontinued the following year, the governing board may, by reason of either of these conditions, decrease the number of permanent employees in the district at the close of the school year.

D.     Procedure

1.      Teachers not holding a regular California credential will be terminated first, provided there are permanent or probationary teachers certified and qualified to perform the assigned duties of the terminated teachers.

2.      Terminate long-term substitute, temporary, and one-year contract teachers who are rendering a service which a probationary or permanent employee is certified and competent to render.

3.      Terminate probationary employees in the inverse of the order in which they were employed.

4.      Terminate the services of not more than a corresponding percentage of the certificated employees of the district, permanent as well as probationary, to the decline in ADA; provided no other employee with less seniority is retained to render a service which a permanent employee is certified and competent to render.
