D.     Procedure

1.      All teachers desiring to serve as substitute teachers, including those applying for regular teaching positions, must make written application to the personnel officer and furnish all information required.

2.      The substitute teachers are only assigned by the Personnel Office except during an emergency.

3.      The teacher substituting performs all the duties of the absent regular teacher unless excused from some of the duties by the principal.

4.      The day-to-day substitute teacher shall arrive at school promptly and attend all meetings, when assigned, as a substitute for the absent regular teachers.

5.      The day-to-day substitute who works more than 10 consecutive days in the same assignment shall receive a higher daily salary rate, beginning on the eleventh day of service. The substitute's long-term pay rate will become retroactive to the first day in the same assignment after the eleventh day.

6.      Teachers substituting for a regular employee shall serve full or partial day and shall be paid the salary rate approved by the Board of Education.

7.      The partial day substitute teachers on the secondary level will be paid by the period. 8.      The elementary school substitute shall serve full or half-day and the noon period shall be used as the division of a half-day.

9.      The continuation school has two sessions. Teaching one session is a half-day assignment. Any periods taught over the session is a full day.
