SICK LEAVE - CERTIFICATED
A.
Purpose and Scope
To set
forth regulations and procedures regarding sick leave entitlement and use

General
1.
An
employee, employed full-time five (5) days a week, shall be entitled to ten
(10) days annual leave of absence for illness, injury and medical check-up with
full pay.
2.
An
employee shall have the right to utilize sick leave for absences necessitated
by pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth and recovery therefrom
when a statement from the employee's physician indicates inability to perform
assigned duties.
3.
The
employee serving less than a full school year and the employee serving on less
than a full-time basis shall be entitled to sick leave in proportion to the
time served in relation to a school year of full term service.
4.
Each
absence will be chargeable at no less than one-half (½) day.
5.
Unused
sick leave shall accrue from school year to school year.
6.
The
district may require a medical statement for any absence due to personal
illness or injury that exceeds three (3) days. In the case where an employee is
aware of a possible absence of twenty (20) service days or more, the employee
shall notify the site manager of the situation and provide the Assistant
Superintendent, Personnel Services, with a statement from a physician
confirming the illness or injury, the prognosis, and an estimate of the
anticipated term of absence. Prior to the employee's return to regular
assignment, a statement from the physician verifying that the employee can
return to the regular assignment without detriment to health must be submitted
to the Assistant Superintendent, Personnel Services.
7.
When
the employee is absent from duties because of illness or injury, whether or not
the absence arises out of or during the course of employment, the amount
deducted from the salary due for any month in which the absence occurs, shall
not exceed the sum which is actually paid the substitute employed to fill the
position during the employee's absence, or if no substitute employee was
employed, the amount which would have been paid to the substitute had one been
employed. Differential pay shall not exceed one hundred (100) service days. The
employee shall receive a copy of the salary differential computation based on
the per diem rate of pay. Said one hundred (100) service days shall commence on
the first service day following exhaustion of accrued sick leave.

Accrued
sick leave total

Sick
leave entitlement for the school year - The statement shall be provided no
later than December 1 of each year.
10. The employee will be responsible for
providing plans and necessary information and materials for a substitute which
will enable a substitute to conduct the classes for the day(s) the employee is
absent.

Procedure
1.
An
employee taking sick leave will inform the district of the anticipated dates of
the leave and if a substitute will be needed.

Exception Report" to the site manager.

For
