BEREAVEMENT LEAVE - CERTIFICATED

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To set forth regulations regarding bereavement leave

B.     General

1.      The employee will be entitled to three (3) service days of released time with pay for bereavement leave for the death of any member of the immediate family. An additional two (2) service days will be granted by the district in the event that out-of-state travel is necessary.

a.      Additional days for emergency situations may be granted under personal necessity leave.

b.      The superintendent may extend the number of days of leave due to emergency situations.

2.      "Immediate family" means the employee's spouse, mother, mother-in-law, father, father-in-law, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild, son, son-in-law, daughter, and daughter-in-law or any relative of the employee or spouse living in the employee's immediate household.

D.     Procedure

1.      An employee taking a bereavement leave will inform the district of the anticipated dates of released time and if a substitute will be needed.

2.      On return from bereavement leave, the employee shall obtain, complete and return to the site manager a Time Exception Report.
