SABBATICAL LEAVE - CERTIFICATED
A.
Purpose and Scope
To set forth
the regulations and conditions for the granting of sabbatical leaves

General
1.
The
leave shall be for the purpose of study and/or travel which will benefit the
schools and pupils of the district while enhancing the skills and knowledge of
the employee.
2.
An
employee accepting a leave agrees to remain with the district at least two
years following the leave or the compensation for the leave will be refunded.
3.
The
cost for fringe benefits in effect at the time the leave is taken for the
employee and/or dependents will be paid by the district.

Procedure
1.
Eligibility:
An employee
shall become eligible for a sabbatical leave after seven years of service in
the district. The total number of employees on sabbatical leave per year shall
be no more than one percent of the total certificated staff.
2.
Conditions:
a.
The
candidate for such leave shall submit by February 1, prior to the beginning of
the school year the leave is desired, an outline of plans to the immediate
supervisor for referral to Personnel Services for review.
b.
Preference
for sabbatical leave shall be given on the basis of merit of the proposed leave
and length of service of the applicant. A Sabbatical Leave Committee shall be
established to determine the merit of the request and to report their findings
to the superintendent.
c.
The
superintendent will then make his recommendations to the Board of Education.
d.
Compensation
for leave shall be one-half of the employee's annual salary for a two-semester
leave.
