MATERNITY LEAVE - CERTIFICATED

Purpose and Scope
To outline
requirements for maternity leaves

General
1.
Unpaid Maternity Leave:
An employee
may be granted an unpaid leave of absence for maternity reasons
2.
Paid Maternity Leave:
An employee
shall have the right to utilize sick leave for absences necessitated by
pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth and recovery therefrom
when a statement from a physician indicates inability to perform assigned
duties.

Procedure
1.
Unpaid Maternity Leave
Upon receipt
of a written request from an employee, the Assistant Superintendent, Personnel
Services, will present a recommendation to the Board of Education based upon
the following criteria:
a.
Statement
from a licensed physician certifying the medical necessity for the leave
b.
Requested
dates and length of the leave
c.
Educational
needs of the district and pupils
d.
Disruptive
aspects of personnel changes
2.
Paid Maternity Leave
a.
The
employee will present a written request to the Assistant Superintendent,
Personnel Services, which includes a statement from a licensed physician.
b.
The
physician's statement will indicate the employees
inability to perform assigned duties for a specified period of time.
