ACADEMIC RECOGNITION AND INCENTIVE

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To establish procedures for handling student academic recognition and incentive for the district's secondary schools

B.     General

Suggestions and/or questions concerning this procedure should be directed to the site manager or to the Deputy Superintendent - Educational Services.

D.     Procedure

1.      Intermediate School/Middle School

a.      A semester/trimester honor roll shall be published by the principal based on the following criteria:

Honors

3.00 - 3.49

 

High Honors

3.50 - 4.00

 

All subjects will be included in the computation. The principal will appropriately publicize this roll.

b.      Near the conclusion of each school year, appropriate awards and honors shall be announced. Selection of such awards and honors and the determination of the manner and time of presentation are the responsibilities of the principal and the professional staff.

2.      High School

a.      A semester honor roll shall be published by the principal based on the following criteria:

Honors

3.00 - 3.49

 

High Honors

3.50 - 4.00

 

 

All subjects will be included in the computation. The principal will appropriately publicize this roll.

b.      Each year the graduating senior with the highest level of academic achievement in the following educational programs will be recognized as the "Outstanding Scholar" in that area.

Mathematics

Business Education

Music

Drama

Science

English

Social Science

Foreign Language

Speech

Home Economics

University Preparatory

Industrial Occupations

(A-F requirements of the University of California)

 

No award will be given if the most outstanding student has not achieved at least a 3.50 grade point average in the educational program concerned.

3.      Near the conclusion of each school year, appropriate awards and honors shall be announced. Selection of such awards and honors and the determination of the manner and time of presentation are the responsibilities of the principal and the professional staff.

E.     Reports Required

At the conclusion of each school year the site manager shall submit a list of awards and honors to the superintendent.
