ALCOHOL ABUSE

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To provide operational procedures for implementation of Board Policy on Alcohol Abuse

D.     Procedure

1.      When the principal and/or his management designee find to their satisfaction that a student possesses, has distributed, is under the influence, or has used alcoholic beverages on the school grounds, or to or from school, or a school or student body sponsored activities off campus, the following action shall be taken:

a.      If it appears that a statute has been violated, the local law enforcement agency may be notified as circumstances warrant.

b.      In consideration of the act and the previous record of the student, appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken after the parent/ guardian has been notified in conference, by telephone, or by mail of such action.

c.      A conference will be scheduled with the parent/guardian and student.

d.      A plan for positive action shall be developed in cooperation with the parent/guardian, student, and other appropriate personnel or agencies.

e.      As appropriate to the situation, further disciplinary action may be taken including recommendation for expulsion.

2.      When a student is continual or habitual in his use, possession or distribution of alcoholic beverages, the principal must consider the possibility of making a recommendation for expulsion. Three or more offenses shall be considered continual or habitual. This does not preclude the making of such a recommendation in other single or serious cases.

F.      Record Retention

1.      Anecdotal discipline and guidance records retained while the student is enrolled.

2.      Records shall be kept by the school administrator until the student's graduation year has passed, then destroyed.
