ENERGY CONSERVATION

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District, cognizant of the growing scarcity of energy resources, shall provide a comprehensive program of energy conservation. This program shall include energy conservation education blended with the regular curriculum for all students in grades K-12.

A district energy conservation program shall be implemented which includes the assessment, monitoring and reduction of energy use in all facilities and divisions. An employee education awareness program for on-the-job application of conservation measures shall be an integral part of the program. The board recognizes that community support is a vital component of effective energy conservation.

The board further recognizes the urgency of the program to promote exemplary fiscal management and the need to seek grants and loans for the implementation of the program. Energy conservation will be a major factor in considering the design of new facilities and the modification of existing facilities, use of facilities, transportation, new equipment purchases, maintenance, and gifts to the district.

In order to modify existing facilities to become more energy efficient, the Board of Education establishes a goal of budgeting the actual annual savings from the energy conservation program to the energy reserve fund. This fund shall be restricted to energy conservation projects.

The superintendent shall be responsible for the development and implementation of the energy conservation program.
