CIVIL DEFENSE

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To help provide a general guideline of actions in a civil emergency.

B.     General

1.      The Orange County Centralized Communications department will broadcast a general alert to all school alert monitors.

2.      The district will then, depending upon the nature of the emergency, contact the schools and either have them implement a prearranged program of action, direct the schools as to the action to be taken, or allow discretion in the action to be taken by a principal.

3.      Each school shall coordinate with the appropriate local government plan.

D.     Procedure

1.      The district will receive notification of an existing emergency situation.

a.      This information will be relayed to the superintendent who will contact the schools in the district.

b.      The superintendent will inform all schools of the appropriate measures to be taken.

c.      Principals will carry out the emergency actions and inform the superintendent of the completion of the actions or of any problems arising in carrying out the procedures.

d.      An attempt will be made, if feasible, to contact parents of students to inform them of the situation.

2.      Each principal will formulate and submit to the superintendent for approval a civil defense and emergency preparedness plan.

3.      Each school will test its prepared plans at least twice each year.

E.     All students will be instructed in each prepared plan at least once yearly.

F.      Reports Required

Civil defense and emergency preparedness plans from each principal

G.     Record Retention

Copies of each approved plan will be kept at district headquarters for quick reference in an emergency.
