PUBLIC PERFORMANCES AND APPEARANCES OF STUDENTS

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To provide a specific framework for administering the Board of Education policy relating to public performances and appearances of students

B.     General

The site manager is to be responsible for the implementation and administration of the district's policy regarding public performances and appearances of students. Questions and/or suggestions regarding this procedure should be addressed to the site manager or the Assistant Superintendent - Educational Services.

D.     Procedure

1.      In approving participation of students in various events, principals shall give careful consideration to the relationship of such events to instructional goals and objectives.

2.      Priorities shall be established in accepting such obligations. Priority shall be given to (1) the support of the activities of the school, (2) the district, and (3) the local communities.

3.      In considering the approval for any specific performance and/or appearance, the principal shall consider the requirements of the performance as well as the amount of time involved in necessary practice sessions or rehearsals preparatory to such performance/appearance.

4.      Each principal shall develop and publish in the staff handbook of the school specific guidelines for the implementation of this procedure.

5.      Principals shall insure that students are properly transported and supervised at all performances/appearances.

6.      Performances and/or appearances shall not be conducted in support of private profit-making or promotional activities.

7.      Approximately a radius of fifty (50) miles is established for public appearances and performances.

8.      Requests for student performances shall be reasonable, and sufficient notice shall be given prior to the performance so that proper preparations may be made.
