FIELD TRIPS (REGULAR)

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To provide regulations for the conduct of regular field trips

B.     A regular field trip is defined as one which:

1.      Has an objective clearly related to the curricular or cocurricular program

2.      Occurs within a single day

3.      Is conducted within the limits of Orange County or contiguous counties; and, in the case of high school athletics, within the boundaries of the California Interscholastic Federation - Southern Section

4.      Utilizes walking, district-approved motor vehicles, or local rail as modes of transportation

5.      Is provided by district-supervised funding sources

Concern or questions relating to this procedure should be directed to the Assistant Superintendent - Educational Services.

E.     Procedures

1.      The principal is the approval authority for all regular field trips and will ensure that such field trips qualify with the elements of the definition indicated in "A" above and that all field trips are properly supervised.

2.      Teachers/coaches, with the approval of the principal, are responsible for the necessary plans and arrangements for field trips. A complete itinerary will be available in the school office.

3.      Teachers/coaches are responsible for the clear statement of instructional/ curricular/cocurricular objectives which justify the field trip.

4.      All necessary forms and notifications must be completed prior to departure.

5.      Teachers/coaches shall have a permit slip signed by the parent/guardian in their possession prior to departure for each student.

6.      At least one district-employed certificated staff member shall be assigned for each forty (40) students. Normally, other adults shall accompany field trips on the basis of one per twelve (12) students. For athletics, coaching personnel are responsible for teams and individual participants.

7.      Funding for field trips shall be provided in accordance with law and other appropriate district policies.

8.      Any regular field trip planned to begin prior to 7:00 a.m. or extending after 10:00 p.m. must have the prior approval of the superintendent or designee.

9.      Transportation shall be by means approved by the district as prescribed in other appropriate policies and administrative regulations of the district.
