USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

 

 

A.      Purpose and Scope

To establish guidelines governing the use of electronic and telecommunication-based information retrieval systems such as CD-ROM, laser disk, Internet, bulletin board services, and E-mail

B.     General

1.      This policy and regulation are applicable to all offices and schools in the district.

2.      This policy and regulation are applicable to all students and staff of the school district.

3.      Suggestions and/or questions regarding this procedure should be directed to the Deputy Superintendent - Educational Services.

D.     Procedure

1.      Electronic and telecommunication based information retrieval systems such as the CD-ROM, laser disk, Internet, bulletin board services, and E-mail must:

a.      be used for educational purposes only.

b.      be an integral part of the instructional program which supports classroom assignments, research projects, or job-related activities.

c.      be appropriate to age, grade, and subject.

d.      conform to community and district standards of accuracy, morality, fairness, and mores. The criteria for the adoption of Instructional Materials shall serve as the test for this requirement.

2.      Users must be aware of and comply with copyright standards for information and/or materials accessed from electronic and telecommunications sources.

3.      Users must conform to all requirements and provisions of the "User's Network Access Agreement."

4.      Prior to the use of these resources, the user must complete and file a "User's Network Access Agreement" with the appropriate office or site and the unit administrator must have approved the user's participation.

5.      Use of the Internet, bulletin boards, E-mail, and CD-ROMs is a privilege that may be revoked by school administrators. Responsibility mandates discretionary use of content. Misuse of these resources by students or staff to access questionable and unacceptable information outside of the guidelines set in section D1 of this regulation and in the "User's Network Access Agreement" may result in revocation of access permission and strict disciplinary action.

6.      Students must be supervised at all times while using telecommunications.

7.      The unit administrator is responsible for authorizing and funding all telecommunications connections in compliance with law and all district policies and administrative regulations with the approval of the Deputy Superintendent - Educational Services

E.     Reports Required

As may be required by the Deputy Superintendent - Educational Services

F.      Record Retention

"User's Network Access Agreement" retained for the duration of the individual's relationship with a school and/or the district.

G.     Responsible Administrative Unit

1.      Deputy Superintendent - Educational Services

2.      Principals, and other unit administrators.
